These days it is famous for not only its cherries but its vine as well. Its average site classification is 321 points according to the 400-point qualification system. By comparison the average score value of the 18 villages belonging to Eger Wine region is 325 points. 46 percent of the type of soil is dark forest soil or argillaceous dark forest soil while 54 percent of it is Tschernosem dark forest soil. Physical types of soil are loam and argillaceous loam. 75 percent of the vineyards can be found in the most favourable altitude above sea level. The ecological endowments of vine-lands in Szomolya signed up for the vine-survey fill the quality viticulture first-class requirements and consequently for quality producing of grapewine varieties of red wine as well

From geographic point of view Szomolya village is linked on to Bükkalja mountain range. It is situated in the valley of Kánya-stream, 5 - 6 air kilometres far from the vine-lands of Eger. The border is an integral part of Eger Wine region running west and east in reference to its exposure. It belongs to the area of Bükk National Park. The vine-lands in Szomolya doubled in the past ten years, currently it is 202,6 ha.
